Monsieur Mallah is a French character actor, who is known for his roles in movies like “The Intouchables”, “Delicatessen” or “”. Monsieur Mallah is most famous for his role in the movie “The Intouchables” with Omar Sy, who is the real-life inspiration for his role. Monsieur Mallah talks in a French accent and is often described as an actors enemy. He is often being called aggressive.
You can’t have The Brain without Monsieur Mallah, and in fact, we get a nice glimpse of an identifiable gorilla sporting a red beret in the Doom Patrol Season 3 teaser. Mallah was first referenced in Season 1, when Eric Morden tells his wife that he was dismissed from the Brotherhood of Evil and replaced with a highly intelligent gorilla who speaks French. This is a fair description of Monsieur Mallah, but he has a lot more skills: let’s see what they are.
At first, there was a simple gorilla, a superior ape living in African forests. One day, he was captured and brought to a lab, where he became the guinea pig of a brilliant French scientist: the scientist aimed at increasing the intelligence level of inferior animals, and with the gorilla he reached his greatest success. The beast, who had arrived there as a regular ape, saw his I.Q. rapidly increase, until it reached the incredible level of 178: usually, 160 is considered the I.Q. of a genius. The scientist named the gorilla Monsieur Mallah, and taught him to speak, to write, to read, instructing him in science, in literature, in philosophy. A weird bond was born between the two, and before they even knew it, scientist and lab rat had become good friends. One day, however, one of the scientist’s jealous colleagues, Dr. Niles Caulder, provoked an explosion, staging an accident that destroyed the man’s body: he planned to implant the still intact brain in a robotic body, using it for one of his own experiments. Monsieur Mallah couldn’t allow it, and he rescued his friend, taking the only living part of him and bringing it to safety; using what his master had taught him, then, Mallah devised a special vat with advanced nutrients in it, and immersed the brain there, keeping it alive, until he was finally able to reactivate it with other machines of his invention. The scientist, who now called himself simply The Brain, was impressed by his partner’s resourcefulness and loyalty, and he guided him in perfecting the technology, inventing ways to communicate and even to move, albeit always as a brain in a jar. Understandably, The Brain was now obsessed with exacting revenge on Caulder, and Monsieur Mallah swore to be by his side in his crusade: he took him to Paris, where the two founded the Brotherhood of Evil with the sole purpose of killing The Chief and his “pets”, the Doom Patrol.
The Brotherhood of Evil fought against the Doom Patrol many times, and they also confronted the Teen Titans and the Justice League of America, and every time Monsieur Mallah was ready to back up whatever plan The Brain came out with. It didn’t take much time to him to realize that he had actually fallen in love with his master and creator. His love appeared to be doomed to be an entirely platonic one, at least until Monsieur Mallah successfully stole an advanced version of Robotman‘s body, removing the brain of Cliff Steele and replacing it with The Brain. The mechanical body, able to feel and perceive everything like a regular human body, was exactly what The Brain had been looking for, and much to his surprise, it was the scientist who declared his love for Monsieur Mallah for first: the gorilla fully reciprocated the feeling, and exchanged a passionate kiss with his beloved master… unfortunately, Robotman’s new body had just developed sentience, and had decided it would have never been a slave to a brain no more, so he initiated a self-destruct mechanism, killing in the following explosion both lovers. Reality, however, was not as stable as it used to be: the meddling on the timestream of Parallax, Extant and Waverider during the Zero Hour, and of The Monitor and the Anti-Monitor during the Crisis on Infinite Earths, resettled things for many people, Monsieur Mallah and The Brain included. Alive without knowing how nor why, the two lovers started a new business, and The Brain became a master of the cloning process: while he successfully cloned some superheroes to sell on the black market, however, he found out that his unique physiology made it impossible for him to clone a new body for himself. Apparently, their “happily ever after” was far to come, but Mallah never lost hope…
Monsieur Mallah is an intellectual, a highly intelligent ape prone to philosophical discussion and scientific research, despite his outward appearance… He also has a romantic side to his personality. Despite these characteristics, he’s a formidable warrior, enforcer, and bodyguard: he’s a master tactician and a genius in several fields (using the alias Abu Hallam, he successfully seized control of the Swiss Bank in a matter of months), as well as an expert in the use of firearms, particularly his trademark machine gun. Monsieur Mallah, as full of surprises as he is of resources, is not only the ideal assistant to one of the world’s finest brains, but also the ideal life partner, destined to a star-crossed love whose fulfillment now dictates his every move.
Leigh Mallah is an individual known for his appearance on the The Project, the comedy show that was broadcast live on Australian television in 2007.
